Breaking Silos
Helping functions move from departmental priorities to shared success.
As organisations grow, departments naturally become specialists in their own functions. While this expertise strengthens operational excellence, it can also create barriers that limit collaboration, slow decision-making and reduce organisational effectiveness.
When teams become focused solely on their own priorities, communication weakens, information remains within departments and opportunities for innovation and collaboration are often lost. Employees begin to optimise individual functions rather than contributing towards broader organisational success.
The Strawberry Outbound Breaking Silos Programme is designed to help organisations build stronger cross-functional collaboration by encouraging employees to think beyond departmental boundaries and work towards shared business objectives.
Through carefully designed experiential challenges and business simulations, participants experience first-hand how collaboration, information sharing and mutual trust influence organisational performance. The programme demonstrates that lasting success depends not on the strength of individual departments, but on how effectively they work together.
By helping participants understand the interdependence of different functions, the programme creates stronger relationships, improves communication and develops a culture where collaboration becomes a competitive advantage.

A practical way to move beyond departmental boundaries.
Organisations choose Strawberry Outbound because we help people move beyond departmental boundaries and develop a genuine appreciation for the value of collaboration.
Rather than simply encouraging teamwork, our experiential approach enables participants to experience how organisational success depends on effective communication, trust and shared accountability across functions. Every challenge is intentionally designed to demonstrate that no single team can succeed in isolation.
Each programme is customised to reflect the organisation's business context, ensuring participants work through scenarios that closely resemble the collaboration challenges they encounter every day. Structured facilitation helps translate these experiences into practical workplace behaviours that improve communication, strengthen relationships and enhance cross-functional effectiveness.
Clients value our ability to create meaningful learning experiences that encourage long-term behavioural change rather than temporary enthusiasm. The programme consistently strengthens organisational alignment while helping teams develop a broader perspective on how their individual contributions support overall business success.
The result is an organisation where departments collaborate more effectively, decisions are made more efficiently and employees work together with a shared commitment to achieving common goals.
Breaking Down Functional Barriers Across a Growing Financial Services Organisation
A rapidly expanding financial services company had grown significantly over a five-year period, creating specialised departments across operations, technology, sales, customer service and compliance. While each function performed well individually, leadership observed that cross-functional collaboration was becoming increasingly difficult. Projects were often delayed because of communication gaps, departments worked with different priorities and employees rarely understood the challenges faced by colleagues outside their own teams.
The leadership team recognised that improving collaboration required more than new processes. It required a shift in mindset from departmental success to organisational success.
Strawberry Outbound worked closely with senior leadership and HR to design a customised Breaking Silos Programme involving employees from every major function. Mixed teams were intentionally created to ensure participants worked alongside colleagues they would not normally interact with during their daily responsibilities.
Throughout the programme, participants engaged in experiential business simulations that required multiple teams to coordinate resources, share information and make decisions collectively. As the challenges became more complex, participants quickly discovered that withholding information, focusing only on departmental objectives or failing to communicate effectively affected the performance of the entire organisation rather than just their own team.
Facilitated reflection sessions encouraged participants to discuss workplace examples of silo behaviour, identify barriers to collaboration and explore practical ways to improve communication across functions. Many participants expressed a new appreciation for the pressures and priorities experienced by other departments, leading to more constructive conversations and stronger relationships.
Following the programme, leadership reported noticeable improvements in cross-functional communication, project coordination and collaboration between business units. Teams became more proactive in involving other departments earlier in projects, reducing duplication of effort and improving execution across key initiatives.
Perhaps the most significant outcome was a shift in perspective. Employees stopped viewing challenges through the lens of individual departments and began approaching decisions with the organisation's overall success in mind. This stronger sense of shared ownership created lasting improvements in collaboration, enabling the organisation to operate with greater agility, alignment and collective purpose.
